4 Ways to Add More Space into Your Home

If you’re going to ask home owners today, they would usually tell you that one of their biggest problems is space. Perhaps we can blame it on commercialisation. Most of the lands today have been converted to prime spots, and it’s almost impossible for a cosy home to survive amidst huge infrastructure. Perhaps it’s also because of the rising value of land or the need of landlords to increase their income. Either way, one cannot easily afford to buy his own land where he can build a spacious home or that rent just keeps on increasing that the last thing you want to do is to think about space.

But then, you really don’t have to spend a lot of money just to get what you want. There are a lot of ways on how you can add more space, enjoy a very comfortable home, and still have some savings for your future projects. You can begin with the following:

1. Get rid of the things you don’t need. People are always sentimental that, in the end, we become hoarders. For most of the time, around 50% of the things we keep in our closet, attic, or basement are those that we no longer need and could have been more useful if owned by somebody else. It would definitely give you more room for more essential items, those that you can start building memories with.

2. Use the walls. Rather than having plenty of frames on your walls, why don’t you add shelves into them? You can go for closed or open—it doesn’t really matter. In fact, shelves can add more character, not to mention usefulness, of your bare walls. You can match them with the rest of your furniture and fixture, if you want to. Best of all, they can be used to store those items that are scattered all over your floor. They are not expensive too. You can even look for carpentry projects and create your own.

3. Paint the town light. When you have limited space, you may want to compromise your desire for bolder colors for your walls and floors with something light. You can stick with yellow, blue, beige, light pink, or the immaculate white. They tend to make the entire room glow, making it appear to be more spacious. You can just add tile borders, preferably at the bottom portion of your walls, to give them a little oomph.

4. Combine functionality and form. Today, you really don’t need to purchase a sofa and storage separately. Because designers already understood the dilemma of space, they have already come up with incredible designs that combine form and functionality. For instance, a simple ottoman can function as a center table in the living room. You can also pick dining tables with drawers, where you can place all utensils such as spoon, fork, and knives.

If you suffer from a very small space, don’t fret. You can follow the tips above, or ask help from an interior designer. You can look for one in the database of Interior Designers Locally.
